BETWEEN TWIN MALES, WHO INHERITS THE IGIOGBE
« on: April 06, 2017, 03:45:14 PM »
Good day,

I'm Bakare Samiat. I'm a final year law student of the University of Lagos. I'm invoveld in a group project on the apprisal of Benin customary law on succession.

My question is what is the applicable customary rule on inheritance of the Igiogbe were the first set of children are male twins.

This question is an issue for us (as a group) as we do not know whether the Benin customary law recognises the second twin as the first like the Yoruba custom. Under the latter custom the second twin deemed to be the eldest, sends the first to earth to ensure that all is well.

Thus if the Benin custom shares same belief, is the second twin the one entitled to inherit the Igiogbe?

Your reply addressing the issue would be greatly appreciated as it would be a huge contribution to knowledge repository.

Thank you.
