The History of Eshawa

Eshawa is one of the Okpameri speaking villages in Akoko edo. It belongs to the East Akoko Clan. Eshawa have a very strong cultural ties with the Somorika people.

According to records from achieves, Eshawa people were early emigrants from Benin. The village was sacked by the lbadan raiders and its people took refuge in Somorika. A few young men returned in I918 to their old community, but still acknowledge the authority of their family head of Somorika.
