Shortly before he went abroad for further studies he was a Lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka Dr Abel Guobadia was in the University of Pittsburgh USA between 1962 and 1966 where he obtained a PhD in Experimental State Solid State Physics. Between 1966 and 1971 he was a Lecturer at the University of Lagos. In 1971, he continued his career in his chosen area of education, only this time not as a lecturer. He was Between 1971- 1982 Pioneer Director of Planning & Ag. Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission. From 1983- 1984 he was made Pioneer Director, Consultancy Services Unit: University of Benin. In 1987 Dr. Abel I. Guobadia was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea. He was in that capacity until 1991. For almost a decade afterwards, Dr. Abel Guobadia was a Private Educational Consultant, consulting for various Organisations both local and International until May 2000 when he was called upon again by his beloved country to come and serve in a highly sensitive and challenging position as the Chairman of the Nations Electoral Body “The Independent National Electoral Commission”, a Commission empowered by the Constitution to conduct Elections into various elective positions in the Land. Dr Abel Guobadia was a Fellow, Science Teachers Association of Nigeria and former President (STAN) ,Former Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Council, Edo State University, Ekpoma . He Was also Special Member of Senate, University of Benin . Late Dr. Abel Guobadia was also a member, Governing Council of West African Examination Council (WAEC) and he was made a Justice of the peace 1991. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Guobadia and their four children, three sons and a daughter, all of whom are happily married with families of their own |
