The generation gap
Acknowledging the difference
Dividing age from youth
Yet surely sometimes seeking
The same eternal truth
We look at life together
Though often seem to see
With differing perspective
And act accordingly,
Facing the same problems
On impulse youth may act
While we may think experience
Call for a little tact.
Despite the disappointments
And burden we both share
A vision for the future
We elders also share
Though youth with all the answers
May find our way too slow
In spite of our experience
How little we all know.
While youth must learn its lessons
And conquer its heartaches
We elders must be patient
Remembering our mistakes.
Although a timeless problem
Seeking the same end
A vision for the future
Youth and experience blend.
